Storytelling 2.0

Bridging the digital divide is very prominent in education as more and more schools turn to e-books and web 2.0 technologies. This expands far beyond the classroom, spilling over into library services as well. This webinar explores how digital resources and tools like websites, social media, iPads, digital cameras, computers, and more can be incorporated into traditional storytelling and programming techniques to enhance the library user’s experience. We’ll also cover the basics of storytelling and storytelling as a marketing tool.

Learning Outcomes

• Learners will gain an understanding of the basic concepts of storytelling
• Learners will see how digital tools can be incorporated into their library programming
• Learners will be informed of the different digital resources available to them
• Learners will see how storytelling can be used as a marketing tool 

Who Should Attend

Youth Services librarians and library paraprofessional and support staff in public and school libraries who work with children of all ages.

Course Level & Prerequisites

This webinar is open to library staff with a basic understanding of computers and the internet.

Instructor(s)

Jennifer Hopwood, a member of the ALSC Children & Technology Committee, has over ten years library experience. As a youth services librarian she has organized several entertaining and educational library programs for children and adults, served as a guest speaker on library community partnerships, and contributed to several industry blogs including the ALSC Blog, the Florida Library Youth Program Bulletin Board, and the Gatekeepers Post. She is an avid tech and web 2.0 enthusiast, also serving as her library’s Social Media Administrator. Ms Hopwood has a MLIS from Florida State University and a BA in English and Education from Monmouth University.
